Meet the Crew

Captain James Newlands

Hello! My name is James. I’m a rising senior at The University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business. I am majoring in finance, with a minor in economics and I have lived in Charleston for thirteen years. I started this company because it has always been a dream of mine to run a fishing charter in the Lowcountry, and share my passion for catching fish. I am a certified USCG captain and happy to be running the Charter for our second year (2021). A fun fact about me is that I love country music and long walks on the beach!

Hello! My name is Matt, I’m a rising junior at The University of South Carolina. I am majoring in biology with a concentration in pre-physicians assistant, and a minor in psychology. I have lived in Charleston for sixteen years. I’ve always loved being on the water around Charleston, and fishing has been one of my favorite hobbies for many years. As my internship this summer was cancelled due to COVID-19, I felt I could not turn down the rare opportunity of working with one of my closest friends doing what we love!

Our Reviews

This company is fantastically run and will provide you with a day to remember. I’m from rural New York so the open water was a new experience for me, and they were amazing. I got to learn how to properly fish, while getting to see some unforgettable aquatic life. The employees at Newlands Charters know what they’re doing and you will not regret doing business with them!

I’ve lived in Charleston my whole life and have fished for most of it and these fellas know how to catch fish.

They know the best spots to guarantee you get your money’s worth.

As a Charleston native, I fully endorse this company. Thanks to the awesome crew, my family and I had a fun and memorable day. James and Matt knew exactly the best spots around the water to give us a unique experience!

I recommend choosing this company when looking for a fun-filled fishing day!
